Task 1 Part 2 - My role Within the Label

A&R stands for Artist and Repetoire. The roles of a A&R rep includes scouting for talent, as well as the artistic and commercial improvement of the recording artist. The role also is the main point of contact between the artist and the label. The 3 major responsibilities of an A&R rep are:

• Finding Talent
• Assisting with Marketing & Promotion

• Working with everyone within the label as well as the Artist

An A&R rep can sign new and already popular artists and groups and will work closely with them to help them improve, discuss how they want to be marketed. They will also help the artist with their image and sound and will get them in contact with the right producers.

I am going to keep a direct point of contact between the label and the artist. Tom is the CEO of the label and Gabi is the marketing distributer for the label. Before I sign anyone I have to talk to the both of them especially Tom to see if he wants to sign them or not. Then I would have to talk to Gabi about what the artist wants promotion wise and Tom about booking recording sessions for the artist, talk about what the artist wants art-wise for the song cover, album or EP. I then need to keep the CEO in the loop when the artist is recording on the beat as well as throughout the recording process like how its going and when the track will be ready to be released. I will talk to him if the artist has any questions or has any requests as to what specific mic they might want to use when recording and what
sort of beat they want to have when they record their lyrics if they're a rapper or singer. I got this research from a couple of websites which makes them secondary sources of information. I found them quite useful as I now know what the basic premise of my role is.
